Community Development Training Institute (CDTI)-Tengeru established in 1963 was legally re-established and renamed as Tengeru Institute of Community Development (TICD) in 2013 by the power of the Tengeru Institute of Community Development (Establishment) order, 2013. However, the 2013 Establishment Order was revoked in 2015 by The National Council for Technical Education (Grant of Autonomous Status to the Tengeru Institute of Community Development) Order, 2015.
Since its inception in 1963, the Institute was administered by the Ministry responsible for community development. However, beginning the year 2010 the Institute began a process of being an autonomous technical institution. The process was completed and the Institute was granted autonomy through parliamentary resolutions that culminated into endorsing and official operationalisation of TICD (establishment) order, 2013. The Institute is now operating as an autonomous technical institution with an independent legal recognition.
